Bernard Sylva, our tricky and enterprising young winger, has described his screamer against Brikama United in June 2021 as the best feeling he has ever had; a goal which continues to stand out as the best goal in the West Coast derby between Fortune and Brikama United.
On the night of 5th June 2021, Bernard Sylva came on in the second half and scored a stunner— a screamer of a goal against Fortune FC’s nemesis, Brikama United, stunning spectators and eventually winning the goal of the season award. Ben came on the pitch and within a few minutes, he collected the ball and dashed off with a few touches before launching a rocket top bin to set the stadium into a wild celebration, restoring parity for ten-men Fortune. Fortune played the greater part of the game with a man down after star Defender Moses JARJU was shown red in the first half.
As Fortune prepares to face Brikama United this weekend and with a view to completing a double over the Satayba boys, Ben recalled his goal against the same opponent, describing it as the best feeling.
“Scoring a goal against Brikama is massive but scoring that type of goal in a derby game is the best feeling I ever had,” the attacker said.
Top three finish is guaranteed for the petroleum boys already this season, and the players are heading into the weekend encounter with passion and desire to win and complete the double over arch-rivals, Brikama United.
With a second-place finish still a possibility, Ben highlighted that the petroleum boys are going all out for the win.
“It’s an important game like any other game. Yes, we’ve sealed the third place, but we want to finish with 51 points and wait for the outcome of the other games. So, it’s a must-win match,” he said.
There is always so much at stake anytime these two teams meet: pride, goals and superiority.
Like many fans, Bernard is expecting a tough encounter. However, the Petroleum Boys are putting up the work to do what the game requires.
The last time these two teams met, Fortune took home the bragging rights with a one-nil win.
Brikama United, with a win or not, will not finish in the top 3, but because it is a derby game, they will be playing their hearts out.
The game will be played on Saturday, June 24 at the Brikama Mini-stadium.
